FUEL FILTERS / CANISTERS
|
PART NO. 18-7945 |
OVERVIEW
Many of today’s high-tech engines require proper fuel system maintenance to operate efficiently. Sierra is a leader in the marine industry for fuel system parts and filters.
- Sierra is not only the largest aftermarket supplier of marine parts, but Sierra also supplies to the OEM engine manufacturers.
- Sierra canister fuel filters are designed to be an exact fit and performance replacement to your current OEM canister filter.
- Sierra offers an extensive line of 21-micron filters and is an industry leader in 10-micron filter technology.
- Sierra canister filters are tested to meet ISO, SAE and JIS standards.
- Sierra 10-micron filters are over 90% efficient at removing dirt and debris from your fuel system while not starving the engine for fuel. Don’t be fooled by other 10-micron filters that don’t specify efficiency. Any filter can catch some 10-micron particles, but how many of the engine damaging particles do they let through?
- Sierra 18-7866 fuel filter is manufactured with a patent-pending design and is endorsed for use on Yamaha HPDI engines.

FUEL FILTERS / CANISTERS - MAINTENANCE
- Proper fuel filter maintenance is critical to keeping today’s high tech engines running properly, with just a little extra time and minimal expense you can save hundreds or thousands of dollars in costly fuel system repairs.
- Replace filters every 50 hours of operation or at a minimum of once per year, preferably at winterization.
- Upgrade your filter if possible. 10-micron filters are available for most engine configurations. Upgrade from a 21-micron to a 10-micron and keep more engine clogging dirt and debris from entering the fuel system. Plus, 10-micron filters are your number one defense against problems caused by ethanol based fuels.
- Inspect fuel lines and filter head for leaks and damage. If in doubt, replace the part.
- Always add a light coating of motor oil to the seal of the fuel filter to allow for easy removal.
- Do not over-tighten filters, and always inspect for leaks after installation.
- Dispose or your old filter properly. Most service, parts and quick lube facilities will allow you to drop off old filters for proper disposal.

FUEL FILTERS/INLINE - MAINTENANCE
Today’s ethanol blended fuels act to dissolve gum and varnish found in your fuel system. Proper fuel system maintenance is critical to keeping your engine running properly and prevent costly repairs.
- Inspect filters regularly and replace every 50 hours of operation or at a minimum of at least once per year, preferably when you winterize.
- Check for fuel leaks and deteriorated fuel lines. If fuel lines are stiff, replace them. Ethanol based fuels will cause the fuel lines to deteriorate from the inside and will also make older fuel lines stiff and brittle.
- Many smaller engines have no fuel filters on the system. Sierra offers easy to install universal inline filters that will fit just about any fuel line on the market and give you an easy visual inspection method for your fuel system.
- When in doubt, leave it to a professional. If unsure or unaware of how to replace your filters, let your local Sierra marine professional do the job for you.

FUEL FILTERS/ KITS - MAINTENANCE
Inspect filters for leaks and damages each time engine is put into service.
- Replace filters every 50 hours of operations or at a minimum of once per year. Ethanol blended fuels will cause debris and varnish to dissolve from fuel tanks and fuel lines which may require more frequent replacement of filters.
- Inspect mounting bracket for fuel filter to be sure bracket is securely mounted to bulkhead.
- Never use PTF tape when installing threaded fuel lines or pipe plugs. Use PTF paste. Threads from the tape tend to enter and block passages in the fuel system.
- Use the right size filter for job. Read engine horsepower recommendations and restrictions prior to installing fuel filter kit.
