Fuel Filters / CANISTERS - MAINTENANCE
• Proper fuel filter maintenance is critical to keeping today’s high tech engines running properly, with just a little extra time and minimal expense you can save hundreds or thousands of dollars in costly fuel system repairs.
• Replace filters every 50 hours of operation or at a minimum of once per year, preferably at winterization.
• Upgrade your filter if possible. 10-micron filters are available for most engine configurations. Upgrade from a 21-micron to a 10-micron and keep more engine clogging dirt and debris from entering the fuel system. Plus, 10-micron filters are your number one defense against problems caused by ethanol based fuels.
• Inspect fuel lines and filter head for leaks and damage. If in doubt, replace the part.
• Always add a light coating of motor oil to the seal of the fuel filter to allow for easy removal.
• Do not over-tighten filters, and always inspect for leaks after installation.
• Dispose or your old filter properly. Most service, parts and quick lube facilities will allow you to drop off old filters for proper disposal.
